Seventh Grade Workshop and Practice TestSaturday, May 8, 20108:30 a.m. to noonDuring the course of their child's seventh grade year, many parents begin thinking ahead to what high school their child will attend. There are nine Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Oakland offering a values-based college preparatory educational program. Current seventh graders planning to apply to one of these Catholic high schools will be required to take the HSPT (High School Placement Test) as part of the application process. The results of this test are one of the important indicators for high school admissions. A student's attention to their schoolwork and homework are the foundation for successful exam preparation. In addition to exam preparation at the grade school level, seventh graders can also benefit from participating in Saint Mary's Seventh Grade Workshop and Practice Test to be given on Saturday, May 8, 2010. Seventh grade participants will have an opportunity to become more familiar with the format of questions, timed sections, and other expectations on the HSPT.
Students will briefly review standardized testing strategies and then put those strategies "to the test" by way of a practice exam, designed specially for seventh graders, with questions and a format similar to the High School Placement Exam HSPT. Confidential results are mailed directly to the student's home as a tool for parents to assess their child's personal strengths and areas of growth.
Cost is $40 which includes the informational morning session, all testing materials, administration of the test, confidential performance profile results, and lunch on the day of the practice test for all seventh grade participants. Many past workshop participants have told us that this program made their high school testing experience more comfortable, less stressful, and opened the possibility for them to demonstrate grade level skills more confidently and with less anxiety.
RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS WORKSHOP AND PRACTICE TEST. ENROLLMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 100 STUDENTS. RESERVATIONS ARE TAKEN ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS.
