Curriculum Mapping
Saint Mary’s teachers have developed curriculum maps in order to clearly
identify the content knowledge and skills that are taught in each class, as well
as the methods of assessment that are used to measure student learning. Unlike
mere syllabi and course outlines, which are projections of what is planned to be
taught, curriculum maps identify what has actually been taught to our
students in each class.
With this data, the Saint Mary’s faculty is able to critically analyze our curriculum, identifying gaps and redundancies, finding intra- and interdisciplinary links both horizontally and vertically in the curriculum. Mapping and map analysis are just one way Saint Mary’s is refining its curriculum, better preparing its students for twenty-first century post-secondary education.
