Buy A Brick

The Saint Mary’s History Project, under the direction of the school’s Alumni Association, continues its efforts to document the wonderful history, tradition, and heritage of the Christian Brothers and Saint Mary’s College High School.

Phase One of the History Project was the creation and organization of display cases in the gymnasium atrium in which many trophies and artifacts of the school’s athletic history from the 1920’s to the present are proudly exhibited. The project is ongoing and welcomes additional memorabilia and information to document the history of Panther athletics at Saint Mary’s.

Phase Two of Saint Mary’s History Project is “The Brick Project.”  More than 500 terracotta bricks will be displayed on the retaining wall along the pedestrian path that leads to the bleachers at Thomas M. Brady Park. The bricks will be engraved with names of alumni, Brothers, teachers, coaches, family members, and others who have been a part of the history and tradition that is Saint Mary’s.

Now is your chance to make your mark and be a part of the Saint Mary’s History Project on the Wall of History by purchasing a brick for $300. Details about the bricks and the response of donors to date follow.

  • Each 4 x 8 inch terracotta brick costs $300. Text is limited to three (3) lines and seventeen (17) characters per line.
  • Many alumni have listed themselves and their class year with a brief message. The more bricks representing alumni and class years, the stronger the sense of history for each individual class and for future classes to see just who came before them at Peralta Park.
  • Other alumni and friends have bought bricks to honor or remember a classmate, Brother, teacher, or coach.
  • Some are having the bricks engraved with their expression of thanks to the school, the Brothers, their parents, and their teachers for their Saint Mary’s education.
  • Others have bought a brick to honor their Panther sports team, a classmate, or a friend who meant a lot in their lives.

Larger bricks — 12 x 12 inches square — are available for $3000 and include 12 lines of text and 24 characters per line. A medallion of the school seal or an appropriate symbol chosen by the school will be placed at the top of the larger dedication bricks.

The final day to purchase bricks for the History Wall at Brady Park will be Founder’s Day, May 15, 2009, the day on which the school community remembers the life and work of Saint John Baptist de La Salle.  The dedication of the Brick Project History Wall will be at Homecoming in Fall 2009.
